Strengthening Efficiency and Competitiveness in the European Knowledge Economies (SEEK)

The objective of the international research programme "Strengthening Efficiency and Competitiveness in the European Knowledge Economies" (SEEK) at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) is to conduct application-oriented analysis of the most pressing problems for European economic policy. Since 2010, the State of Baden-Württemberg has been funding the programme to strengthen top- level research in economics.

The European Union's "Europe 2020" strategy aims at creating the conditions for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. Projects within the SEEK research programme address the efficiency and competitiveness of the knowledge-based economies in Europe, thereby supporting the "Europe 2020" strategy from a science perspective.

Against the backdrop of the European economic and financial crisis, demand is higher than ever for economic expertise and independent, scientifically grounded policy advice. The 2014 SEEK projects will thus focus on the economic crisis, and the central topic of the call for project proposals is "Overcoming the Crisis in Europe."

The target of new SEEK research projects is to deepen our understanding of the crisis and to provide politicians and decision-makers with empirical, science-based expertise. Therefore, SEEK projects will examine the origin of the crisis, the conditions for sustainable and inclusive growth as well as long-term strategies to secure economic and financial stability. The results can contribute to the development of policies that address the major economic challenges for European societies.

We look forward to receiving your project proposals.
